Get Fit For Life Not Just For Summer
By following the tips below, you’ll be well on your way to setting realistic fitness goals that you can actually achieve that will help you get fit for life, not just summertime!!
Talk to Your Doctor
Before starting any new fitness program or workout plan, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor first. This is especially important if you have any underlying health conditions or if you’re pregnant. Your doctor will be able to give you specific advice on how to stay safe and healthy while working towards your goals.
Set Realistic Goals
One of the most important things you can do when trying to get fit is to set realistic goals and make a plan. If you’re looking to lose weight, for example, setting a goal of losing 20 pounds in a month is probably not going to be successful. But if you set a goal of losing two pounds a week, you’re much more likely to stick with it and see results. Losing weight too quickly can be unhealthy and it’s not sustainable in the long run.
Getting in shape is a process and it takes time. If you set unrealistic goals, you are more likely to get discouraged and give up. Remember that slow and steady wins the race!
Set A Schedule On YOUR Terms
Another important tip is to set a schedule and stick to it. This means setting aside time each week to exercise and then making sure you actually do it. If you can’t commit to working out three times a week, then why not start with twice a week and then gradually increase the frequency?
I noticed when I first started working out, that it HAD to be on MY terms, or I would not stick with it at all. So, I made a schedule and worked out three times a week for however long I wanted to. I did not really follow any program, but I did use free, SHORT workouts on YouTube.
I knew I could work out for 5 minutes a day so I did that for a little while. Once I felt more comfortable, I upped my workouts to 10-15 minutes a day. Now I am up to 30-45 minutes a day doing Caroline Girvan’s new Iron Series (which I TOTALLY recommend!!!!!!).
Focus On The Small Things
Another important tip is to focus on making small changes in your lifestyle. If you try to change everything at once, it will be overwhelming and difficult to stick with. Start by making small changes like drinking more water or adding a daily walk to your routine. Over time, these small changes will add up and make a big difference.
After a while, those small things will turn into habits and you won’t even notice you are doing them anymore. One thing I also enjoy doing was not really looking at my body in the mirror for a while. I waited I think a month before I checked my body out in the mirror. I saw TINY little changes happening to my body and I LOVED it. So even now, I won’t look at my body in the mirror if I am started a new program. I take my ‘before‘ pictures but that is it. I actually ignore myself in the mirror! After my program is completed, I will then check myself out in the mirror to see my results. This is SO rewarding and even better than those before and after pictures!
Don’t Compare Yourself to Others
It’s easy to get discouraged when you compare yourself to others, but it’s important to remember that everyone is different and we all have different starting points. Just focus on your own progress and don’t worry about what anyone else is doing. I know easier said than done, but seriously, focus on YOU!!! After all, you are doing it for yourself and your health, no one else!
Eat Healthily
Of course, eating healthy is also key to getting fit. After all, your body is made in the kitchen, right? This doesn’t mean you have to give up all of your favorite foods, but it does mean being conscious of what you’re eating and making sure you’re getting the nutrients your body needs.
Eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, for example, is a great way to make sure you’re getting the vitamins and minerals your body needs. And if you’re looking to lose weight, cutting back on sugary drinks and processed foods can be a great place to start. And, don’t forget the protein if you are lifting heavy! Protein is SO important!
Stay Motivated: Get Fit For Life Not Just For Summer
Once you have a plan, make sure to stick with it! It’s SO important to find an activity that you enjoy so that you’re more likely to stick with it. Staying motivated is often the hardest part of getting fit. But it’s important to remember that you’re doing this for yourself and that every step you take is a step in the right direction. So if you have a bad day or you miss a workout, don’t beat yourself up. Just get back on track and keep going!
Set a Long-Term Goal
In addition to setting small goals, it’s also important to have a long-term goal in mind. This will help you stay motivated when things get tough. Remember that it takes time to get in shape, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t reach your goal right away. Just keep working at it and eventually, you’ll get there!
Have Fun And Reward Yourself!
Finally, don’t forget to have fun! Getting fit should be something that you enjoy, not something that feels like a chore. Find an activity that you love and make it part of your regular routine. Not only will this help you stay motivated, but you’ll also be more likely to stick with it in the long run.
You can also find a workout buddy and work out with them! I like to work out by myself so I can concentrate but you might be someone who loves being around people! So, finding someone to work out with can help you stay motivated and they can hold you accountable! No skipping a workout! If you don’t have anyone in mind, try joining a local sports team or signing up for group fitness classes at your gym.
One way to stay motivated is to reward yourself for reaching your goals. This can be something small, like buying yourself a new workout outfit or getting a massage. Whatever it is, make sure it’s something that you’ll actually enjoy so that you’ll be more likely to stick with your fitness plan.
